Operational Data being assimilated into ROMS
|
A variety of in situ and satellite measurements that are available
in real-time and assimilated into the ROMS forecasting system are
described below:
|
Satellite Sea Surface Temperature (SST):
|
-
The NAVOCEANO MCSST Level 2 HRPT/LAC (High Resolution Picture Transmission and Local Area Coverage) product at 2.2 km available within hours after data collection by AVHRR (downloaded from: podaac.jpl.nasa.gov)
-
The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Microwave Imager (known as TMI) at 25 km between 40S to 40N (downloaded from: ftp.ssmi.com)
-
The Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR-E) aboard NASA's Aqua spacecraft, seeing through clouds at 25 km (downloaded from: ftp.ssmi.com)
|
In Situ Measurements:
|
-
In situ SST measurements are obtained in real-time from ships, fixed or drifting buoys, and Coastal Marine Automated Network (CMAN) stations, processed by the Navy FNMOC and downloaded from the USGODAE server usgodae2.usgodae.org
-
In addition to surface measurements, vertical profiles of temperature and salinity are also obtained in real-time from fixed moorings and drifting floats, processes by the Navy FNMOC and downloaded from the USGODAE server usgodae2.usgodae.org)
